Path of the Arts

6/12/26

When I was younger, I had a narrow definition of art; paintings, drawings, sculptures… things you would find in a museum framed on a wall or well lit on a pedestal.

In college, I got closer to understanding Art when I relaxed my fixation on the outcome and made clay vessels blindfolded to test the ability of my hands alone or when I tried to translate singular moments of my own life into color, density, and mark.

Truly, I was able to make Art after schooling when I created a blanket out of yarn that I had acquired by chance. I did not choose to make a blanket - the materials presented themselves to me and I accepted the task. I became a vessel through which mundane things could be held and transformed.

This is how I feel about much of my life currently - I am not choosing it but, instead, partaking in what arises in front of me. Any and everything I do can be Art whether it is a stew made of ingredients on hand, a workout composed of movements my body wants to do, or a conversation had by chance from inkling of curiosity.

When I allow myself to notice what calls to my attention and heart, when I allow myself to commit to simply seeing what unfolds, I am always astounded at the beauty and support that surrounds me.

The Path of the Arts is unpredictable and amazing, hard and rewarding, and certainly a path on which I intend to stay.

The Beginning

The Beginning

5/22/26

It’s hard to say where the beginning might be. One could say it was when I was born into this world; that it began in the mountains, where the people and land that I was ushered into at first breath raised me to be sure and strong. Or perhaps it began when I first ventured out on my own to try my hand at life.   Or maybe it truly began when life shook me so hard I had to question everything and start again.

Certainly, these were all beginnings, but currently I am feeling like I just stepped onto a new path, where I will begin again. But this one is different; on this path, I finally feel at home. Here, as I take the first steps on a new journey, for the first time in my life, my spirit is home. I have a sense that I am exactly where I am supposed to be.

I am immensely grateful for all the twists and turns that brought me here and excited for what is unfolding.

Come, let’s see what’s around the next bend.
